Preparing for Medical School
Preparing to study medicine overseas
Complete a thorough diagnostic test designed to highlight strengths and interests and determine suitable career directions.
Consult with Mentors currently studying medicine in the UK to supplement the assessment process, in order to allow us to build up a detailed picture of your abilities and expectations.
Prepare for the UK entry examinations for medical school with your Mentor: either BMAT or UCAT, including essay writing and interview practice.
Receive a personalised report with feedback and recommendations from the assessment process and suggestions on the best medical school to apply to, based on our findings.
Discuss findings with a Mentor and Consultant and make a final decision on the course you wish to study and the five universities to apply to – based on our suggestions and your predicted grades;
Complete necessary documentation and submit a professional UCAS application with close support from an Elab Consultant (see below)
Receive advice on finding accommodation, financing and settling in.
Medical School Overseas - UCAS Application Documentation
Once the assessment and diagnostic stage is complete, the Consultant and applicant will start work on the application documents, comprising
- Personal Statement
- Reading lists and supplementary courses
- Predicted Grades
- References.
Applications to UK medical schools must be submitted by 15 October of the year in which you will be sitting your final exams. This is the cut-off date for submitting a correctly filled in application form as well as, in many cases, having already passed the BMAT or UCAT entrance exam.
Since the application process for studying medicine in the UK is fiercely competitive, we ensure that all our applicants are equipped with a Plan B: and submit applications to fields of study which are related to medicine, a strategy which facilitates taking advantage of the Graduate Entry Scheme for Medicine once they have gained their first degree – for example Medical Sciences or Biomedical Sciences.
