Reading lists

Creating a road map of your career

Your application to study in the US needs to stand out by emphasising your personal academic interests. The individual coaching sessions with Consultants and Mentors will help you to identify, expand and demonstrate these interests.

The reading list will help you to confidently write your application essay, since you will not be dependent on inspiration, but well prepared to tackle the task. Each reading list will be personalised and subject-specific.

Your consultant will also suggest and discuss a number of options – such as useful study trips abroad, attending summer school, enrolling on short academic and language courses – to strengthen and enhance your application.

Stage 2: Preparing your application to study in the USA

Common Application

We will carefully support or complete the online application to any university in the USA, individually, or via the Common Application system.

Stage 3: Preparation for SAT entrance exam and TOEFL

Students intending to study in the USA will need to pass SAT entrance exams and an English proficiency test (TOEFL). The higher ranked universities will obviously require higher pass grades and students need to be professionally prepared, especially for the SAT exam. Please refer to: SAT Workshops and TOEFL Workshops.

Stage 4: The Application essay and references

Elab has been helping applicants to write personal essays and references for many years. We maintain strong links with experts in the field via our Mentor Programme and know how to highlight and present your strengths in a way which tallies with American standards and expectations. These documents are important and must be meticulously crafted and worded. Working with your mentor and consultant, you will produce documents whose content and language demonstrate your talents and ability to study in the USA.

Stage 5: Before beginning your course

  1. We will help you with all the formalities associated with applying for a visa
  2. We will assist you with accommodation, either in a student dorm or in rented accommodation in an area of your choosing
  3. We will show you how to find shared accommodation
  4. We will tell you how to open a bank account abroad and how to make money transfers
  5. We will provide you with a summary of student accounts so that you can make an informed decision about which one suits you
  6. We will provide advice on obtaining medical insurance and setting up a mobile telephone contract.
